Back to School...already?!

I know that many of you are already teaching a room full of eager little bodies..I on the other hand..I think I'm in denial..I am NOT ready to go back..yes I love my job..yes I love teaching...and actually watching those 'lil lightbulbs go off is THE best feeling in the world..but I absolutely treasure my summers off! I ADORE summertime! I go back on Monday to start our annual PD..for an ENTIRE week..what's up with that?! A week of PD..that's craaazy town! I just have one thing to say to the thief that stole my summer...I WANT it BACK!! Rewind, please! Okay..I'm done with my rant...I think. ;)

I have worked in my room..it's almost ready..I just need a few things here and there..but I haven't been in it in two weeks..does that make me a bad teacher? I hope not! In my defense..I have been working on a few classroom projects at home..and I've been spending tons of quality time with my little family before the madness arrives..you teacher mommies know what I'm talking about, right?! If you don't..please humor me and if you have to..lie a bit and nod your head. Thank you.  ;)

Here's some proof that I have been working at home..I've been a printing and laminating fool.
I have also worked on creating some more dolch phrases for my classroom..this packet has an apple theme. Love apples! You can find it here, currently on sale for $1.50.
Some supplemental stuff for my reading series.
and spending time with these cuties.

Look at those faces..can you blame me for wanting it to be summertime a little while longer?

Okay...if you're still reading this loooong post...be sure to leave me some love because the first 3 people to do so will recieve the Apples, Apples Everywhere! Dolch Phrases for free!
And just because I'm feeling generous...and would like to thank you for all the purchases you made at my 'lil TpT store during one of the biggest sales of the year...I am holding a flash giveaway! Woohoo! One lucky reader will win 10 items of their choice from my TpT store. All you have to do is follow both my blog AND TpT Store and leave a comment below telling me you do so.{Don't forget to leave your email addy..so I can contact you ASAP}. Giveaway will end tomorrow at midnight. The winner will be announced sometime on Friday evening...after I get back from my day of shopping. ;)
Piece of cake, piece of pie, right?!
Until next time, toodles!

Guest Blogger: Krista

Hi everyone! I cannot tell you how excited I am to be guest blogging for Gladys! My name is Krista Wallden and you can find me over at my little blog, The Creative Chalkboard. I have been a {HUGE} fan of Gladys for a long time. She is super sweet for letting me guest and share some freebies and ideas with you that are perfect for starting off the new school year.

I am new to the bloggy world and have been so inspired by all you fabulous bloggers. My blog is a mix of all things elementary with lots of ideas that can be used in different grade levels. Throw in my Creative Clips digital clipart, fonts, and a touch of crazy and you have The Creative Chalkboard. I taught first grade last year and I’m moving to third grade this coming year {in a week and a half!!}.

Today I wanted to give you some {Freebies} that you can use to in your first days of school, because I know we are all in major Back-to-School mode. I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for quick go-to’s that give my kiddos phonics practice. I came up with these little sheet strips called Monster Vowel Chompers. It may sound crazy, but the minute I give my students an activity that is on a half-sheet of paper, foldable or mini book- they LOVE it- no matter what! It is like a magical disguise for an otherwise “worksheet activity.”

Here's a couple Vowel Chomper Sheets to show you what they look like:

Just copy and cut down the middle. Saves paper too!

Students write words with a long or short vowel sound next to the correct monster. There are five different sheets- a, e, i, o, u. They are super easy to use as a word center and have students find words in the room. I have also used them as a quick warm-ups during reading groups and give students a short list of words (could be words from our spelling lists or words that incorporate a specific word chunk) and they divide them up in the correct groups. I have also assembled the half-sheet books with all five pages (plus the cover) and given them to students at the beginning of a week. Then, they fill in words in the whole book for the entire week- during morning work or for early finishers. If this sounds like something you could plug into your day or use as simple formative assessments, you can snatch them up {HERE} for free.

Second thing I have for you is a {HUGE} freebie- shows you just how excited I was to guest for Gladys!! I am offering up my Back to School: Colorful First Days Unit to all of you followers for the next TWO days for {FREE}!

I love brand new crayons and was so inspired by all the rows and rows of brand new crayons in stores during back to school sales that I made a “first days of school” mini unit where crayons are the stars of the show! This unit has a crayon box themed All About Me/Time Capsule Book, a bunch of icebreaker activities (color and crayon themed of course!), a simple craftivity, and a fun surprise message from The Colorful Crayon Collector!

Here’s a little preview of my colorful unit! This is a 30-page packet, so only some of the pages are shown below. Hurry and click {HERE}to snatch it up for free over at my little TpT store while you can! After that, it will go back on sale for $4.00.
I hope I have left you with a few ideas that might make your first days back a little easier! I’d love for you to hop over to my blog and check out more free materials, fonts and clip art!

Hope everyone has fun and “colorful” first days of school! Thank you Gladys for letting me pop in and share with you guys!

Thank you Krista for being my guest blogger today! I LOVE your freebies...so stinkin' cute! I'm sure I'll be using these in a couple of weeks with my 'lil firsties. ;)

If you liked Krista's freebies...please stop by her cute blog The Creative Chalkboard...follow her, and leave her a little love. She is super sweet and amazingly creative as y'all can see!

I'll be back later this week with some of my BTS purchases from the big TpT sale yesterday...I bought a few things...okay, okay it was more than a few...but I needed them all! ;)
Until next time, toodles!
