Love New Ideas

Before Thanksgiving Break Sarah at First Grader...At Last! posted this very cute idea of creating a Noun Town...at the time we were learning about Proper Nouns...and I thought my students would have a blast creating their own Noun Town. This is what they came up with...notice Chili's...how cute is that picture?!

Thanks for the great idea, Sarah!

Being Thankful

So with Thanksgiving around the corner I thought I would do a "What I'm Thankful" list.

1. Number one will always stay number one on my list. I'm thankful for God...and for all he does for us. He provides comfort, strength, serenity, and love.

2. I'm thankful for my beautiful family. They are my everything.

3. I'm thankful for the opportunity of going to school and pursuing a career. Teaching is a big part of my life.

4. I'm thankful for my friends. I probably don't say it enough but I love them.

5. I'm thankful for our cozy home. We might not have a lot but I'm so grateful we have a roof over our head.

6. I'm thankful for the food we have on our plates everyday. It may seem kind of silly but it's seriously something I'm grateful for especially when so many don't have any.

7. I'm thankful for this beautiful weather.

8. I'm thankful for good health.

What are you thankful for?

Lesson Plan SOS

Omg...I can't believe I won! I am so excited about this...I had to blog about it! Earlier in the month Mrs. Larremore at Chalk Talk: A Kindergarten Blog hosted a giveaway from Lesson Plan SOS...and I won! The prize was a $50 gift certificate to use on any products from her website...isn't that awesome?! I had already purchased several of their items...so when I found out this morning I had won...I was uber excited! Here is one of the activities I purchased from her...my class and I did this on Friday before we let out for our Fall/Thanksgiving break.

How To Catch a Turkey

My Firsties and I read this cute book yesterday...
In the book it is the day before Thanksgiving, eight boys and girls take a field trip to a turkey farm. They are delighted and enjoy playing with eight cute turkeys but when they find an ax and ask Farmer Mack Nugget what it's for...they are shocked to learn that he plans to kill all the turkeys for Thanksgiving dinners! The children then come up with a clever plan to save the turkeys...

My Firsties were totally engrossed with the story...after reading it, they wanted to know how
Farmer Mack Nugget could have trapped those turkeys in the first place. Using Deanna Jump's
How to Catch a Turkey sheet we came up with our own traps...but my kiddos said they would only trap them to keep them as pets...how cute!

Turkey Pie Graph

Today my class and I created the Turkey Pie Graph from Deanna Jump's Thanksgiving Math and Literature Fun Unit...we loved graphing our answers to the question Do You Like to Eat Turkey? We had a lot of fun doing this...and the result is really cute too! Here are some pictures of our Turkey Pie Graph...as you can see the majority of my class likes to eat turkey!
Close up of the Turkey Pie Graph.

After we created the graph...the children had to transfer that information to their own graph.

So much fun!
Tomorrow we will be writing a "How To Catch a Turkey" piece...stay tuned!

Turkeys in Disguise

My Firsties and I read this adorable book...Turkey Trouble. In the story, turkey is desperately trying to avoid being eaten on Thanksgiving Day by disguising himself as other farm animals. It is super funny and cute...and the kids loved it! After reading the story my Firsties decided to create their own Turkeys in Disguise....they turned out absolutely adorable!

These turkeys in disguise were too cute!
They were all so creative...awesome job Firsties!

I went to my favorite teacher's store...Dollar Tree...bought these cute little wood animals...(3 in a package...how awesome is that?!)...hot glued them to some dowel rods...and voila! Cute and inexpensive pointers...my firsties have been delighted with them!

Good Character Traits

Wow...it's been a looong time since I've blogged...ok...not that long...but a couple of weeks nonetheless. My kiddos and I have been learning about good character traits...after a long discussion of what this meant, they had to draw and write about a good character trait...here are a couple of examples. Not to be biased...but I think they did an awesome job!
